Topic: Determinants of Success and Failure in Orthodontic-Surgical Canine Treatment

Canine impaction is a clinically significant condition that, if not diagnosed and managed promptly, can compromise function and esthetics, leading to various adverse sequelae. The most common management approach combines surgical and orthodontic procedures, involving surgical exposure followed by orthodontic traction to guide the tooth into alignment. Given the complexity of impaction, its potential complications and the interdisciplinary care it requires, comprehensive investigation of the factors influencing treatment outcomes has remained a central focus of research.
This lecture will focus on determining failure rates of orthodontic-surgical treatment for maxillary and mandibular impacted canines and identifying patient- and treatment-associated risk factors of failure. Linear and logistic regression models were applied. This investigation aimed to improve the management of canine impaction by identifying predictors that can help clinicians design more efficient and cost-effective treatment plans.
